Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)

Guardian EPDs
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a verified and registered document that communicates transparent information about the life-cycle environmental impact of a product.
Guardian EPDs are developed specific to the region where the glass is manufactured. By publishing EPDs, Guardian supports architects and designers who strive to understand the environmental impact of the buildings they design through the products they specify. The goal is to provide them with the information needed to calculate their buildings whole life carbon (WLC) emissions and achieve credits in global building rating systems, such as LEED® and BREEAM®. Four EPDs are available from Guardian Glass North America. For certifications and declarations for Guardian Glass products manufactured in Europe, Latin America or AMEI (Africa, Middle East, India) regions, please refer to that region’s webpage.
Flat glass products EPD
The Guardian Flat Glass Products EPD is valid for all flat unprocessed glass products produced in North America. The products covered by this EPD include unprocessed clear glass and tinted glass such as Guardian UltraClear™ low-iron glass, green glass, CrystalGray™ glass and SMG™. The EPD contains a complete listing of all products covered.
The North America unprocessed flat glass EPD has been renewed in March 2024. It has a cradle-to-gate (A1-A3) embodied carbon value of approximately 1102 kg CO2e/ton (TRACI 2.1 Method)*. This new value is approx. 24% lower than Guardian Glass’ 2018 EPD value of 1455 kg CO2e/ton.
* Global Warming Potential of the A1-A3 stages includes the impacts from the raw materials extraction and processing stage, raw materials transportation to the manufacturing site, and the manufacturing of the product. This term is sometimes referred to as the “product carbon footprint” or “embodied carbon.”
Processed glass products EPDs
The Guardian Processed Glass Products EPDs are valid for sputter-coated, wet-coated, and heat-treated glass products produced in North America. The products covered by these EPDs include Guardian SunGuard™ architectural glass, ClimaGuard™ residential glass, and other applications. The EPDs contain a complete listing of all products covered.
